This year’s Ball will support the next two annual Order of Malta International Summer Camps to permit the participation of Hungarian youth with disabilities. The Order of Malta 39th 2024 International Summer Camp will be held in Fiesch, Switzerland and the 2025 camp will be held in The Netherlands.
It is a dream for most young handicapped, fighting their physical disabilities and other difficulties, to have one carefree and happy summer week with other young people. These magical camp gatherings have life changing impacts as they offer exceptional experiences for both individuals with disabilities and volunteers who are all a similar age and enjoy the camp experience together.
Donations will support the attendance of 21 Hungarian participants (including disabled youth and their escorts) with a budget of about €27,000 (11 million Ft) for the two years or a cost per person per year of around 250,000 Ft.

This year’s VI Saint John´s Charity Ball also seeks to support a new fund-raising goal: the launch of a new special scholarship benefiting disadvantaged children across Hungary under the Symphony Program managed by the Hungarian Charity Service of the Order of Malta. The Symphony Program promotes learning through music in disadvantaged villages across Hungary. This new scholarship initiative will provide needed financial support and mentoring for at least 12 talented young musicians attending high school at a city away from their home.
The Symphony Program started eleven years ago and now engages over a thousand children across Hungary, not only building musical-, but also social and communication skills. The most talented high school students are to be chosen for this scholarship program. These children would not be able to continue their musical studies without this support. The program provides an encouraging environment for students who are from the Hungary’s most disadvantaged regions. Participating students would also set examples for younger musicians. This will enable students to at least have the financial means to pay for some of their basic needs.
Donations will support a monthly scholarship of around 35,000 Ft per month per student per year for 12 to 15 participants. The annual budget is about 7 million Ft, including some mentoring and other costs, or an annual cost per student of around 600,000 Ft. Ideally the donations collected this year would provide enough funding to support the scholarship program for two years (14 million Ft) or for more students.

The new interactive and digital educational program was successfully introduced at seven disadvantaged Hungarian elementary schools managed by the Hungarian Charity Service of the Order of Malta’s School Foundation (MMSZIA). The program has and is impacting over a thousand students. Its goal is to further develop a supportive learning environment with interactive packages and software programs to provide motivating and creative teaching approaches with the support of the MMSZIA’s pedagogical experts.
Pupils learn about arts, communication, science, technology, and mathematics, while developing their interest and motivation to learn.

The proceeds of the I Saint John’s Charity Ball in 2015 made it possible to launch the Maltese First Aid Education program in Hungarian secondary schools. The team of trainers was organized, along with the creation of the teaching materials. After successful accreditation of the teaching program, 90 students completed the course and received basic first aid training. The books have an appropriate layout, illustrating to the students the fundamentals of first aid and the most important steps of life-giving resuscitation in case of a heart failure, significantly increasing the chances for survival.
